Retreat Wrap-up and Homework
Good morning everyone!
We began our time together this past weekend with an exercise in gratitude. As I left the Retreat Center Sunday afternoon, I found myself revisiting that space again. First, I was grateful for each one of you making a choice to pursue God in a deeper way. I know it comes at a cost. Second, I was grateful for the many conversations I had about what it looks like to follow hard after Jesus, and the barriers that get in the way. Third, I was grateful for the ‘tension of opposites’ that seemed to mark our time. From tears to roaring laughter, God was present in it all. Finally, I am grateful for a God who relentlessly pursues us and draws us to himself. I can’t help but see him smiling over the weekend!
As far as preparation for our next gathering on December 1, your homework is as follows.
- Continue the practice of 10 minutes of silence. You can do a breath prayer, a surrender exercise like Sitting on the Dock, or just simply be still. Each day, give yourself the gift of slowing down to be present with yourself and God.
- Read Life of the Beloved by Henri Nowen. This will prepare you for our next gathering on December 1.
- If you would like to join a group of people who are doing spiritual practices together, you can do so at the Church Library on Wednesday mornings from 6:30 to 6:50.
As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
