Retreat Wrap-up and Homework

 In Journey Cohort 2

Good morning everyone!

We began our time together this past weekend with an exercise in gratitude.  As I left the Retreat Center Sunday afternoon, I found myself revisiting that space again.  First, I was grateful for each one of you making a choice to pursue God in a deeper way.  I know it comes at a cost.  Second, I was grateful for the many conversations I had about what it looks like to follow hard after Jesus, and the barriers that get in the way.  Third, I was grateful for the ‘tension of opposites’ that seemed to mark our time.  From tears to roaring laughter, God was present in it all.  Finally, I am grateful for a God who relentlessly pursues us and draws us to himself.  I can’t help but see him smiling over the weekend!

As far as preparation for our next gathering on December 1, your homework is as follows.

  1. Continue the practice of 10 minutes of silence. You can do a breath prayer, a surrender exercise like Sitting on the Dock, or just simply be still. Each day, give yourself the gift of slowing down to be present with yourself and God.
  2. Read Life of the Beloved by Henri Nowen. This will prepare you for our next gathering on December 1.
  3. If you would like to join a group of people who are doing spiritual practices together, you can do so at the Church Library on Wednesday mornings from 6:30 to 6:50.

As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
