GATHERING 3: RETREAT – September 20-22, 2019

Topic: Rhythm of Life

Main Idea: Vision and Invitation to “learn the unforced rhythms of grace, resulting in a personal and practical rhythm for each person”.

Anchoring Scripture: Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message)

  • “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me – watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Friday, September 20, 2019:

7:00 pm Opening Session & Worship

7:30 pm Sheryl lead Lectio Divina – Matthew 11:28-30 (Message) – We began our 1st retreat with this and now we begin our last retreat with this passage.

7:40 pm Brief teaching by Sheryl on “Drawn vs. Driven”

8:00 pm Spiritual practice

8:15 pm Great Silence begins

 

Saturday, September 21, 2019:

*8:30 am Sheryl & Ken with Small Group Facilitators in Teaching room

9:00 am Spiritual Practices (Body, Lectio-Psalm 63, Personal reflection)

9:30 am Rhythm of Life – Vision & Teaching

10:00 am Walk thru Rhythm of Life Worksheet, then, personal time to complete your own worksheet and placing daily/weekly/monthly/annual on their own piece of flip chart paper

11:00 Begin sharing flip chart paper in small groups; after each person shares, a couple of people in group pray for the person regarding what they shared

12:00 pm Lunch

1:00 pm Continue sharing and praying in small groups until completed

Free time

6:00 pm Dinner

7:00 pm Vision for writing personal testimony

7:15 pm Walk through the worksheet that gives them a framework

7:20 pm Personal time to write their own testimony (Ken, Sheryl and Small group facilitators will be available to assist during this time)

8:00 pm Gather back together for one more testimony and instructions for community time and Great Silence

9:00 am Spiritual practices

9:30 am Small Group time – each person share their testimony

10:30 am Break

10:45 am Large group – a few testimonies are shared

Why and What is The Journey?

Jesus is a wise leader, a profound teacher, and as God-in-the-flesh knows what abundant life looks like. Out of deep love, he offers that life to anyone who chooses to follow him. The Journey is a year-long spiritual formation and discipleship cohort where you will learn to follow and become more like Jesus in deeper ways. Through a combination of weekend retreats and monthly gatherings, you will be given practical tools to deepen your relationship with God, with yourself, and with others. By the end of The Journey, you will have a clearer image of how to cooperate with God as He invites you to become the kind of person who naturally does the things Jesus would do in any situation.

Who is The Journey for?

The Journey is for any adult who is:

Hungry Longing to know God more

Humble Open to cooperate with God’s work in and through them

Willing Interacting honestly and transparently with God, self, and others

Available Committed to being present and prepared for all gatherings and retreats

When is The Journey?

Monthly Sunday gatherings are scheduled from 3-6pm followed by dinner.

Where will The Journey take place?

Sunday afternoon gatherings will be held in Turlock.

Weekend overnight retreats for the 2020 cohort will be held at The Jesuit Retreat Center of Los Altos.

Are there prerequisites for The Journey?

The Journey is an opportunity for everyone. However, to be best prepared we are asking applicants to have completed a few foundational steps prior to the beginning of the cohort.

What is the cost for The Journey?

$250 is the participant’s portion which includes all local gatherings and retreat accommodations.
